SoftDent scores F on Supergood's API Report Card. SoftDent has no public API and no developer portal; Carestream Dental supports it for existing practices and steers them to Sensei Cloud. Getting data out means an Authorized Partner agreement or a local agent reading the c-tree and SQL files on the office server.
Without a usable official API, teams fall back on manual exports, file drops, or one-off vendor integrations. The other option is an unofficial API layer like Supergood that automates the authenticated web app directly. Site terms may apply to any integration approach, and how they apply is a determination each team makes for itself.
SoftDent is a server-based Windows dental practice management system for general dental practices covering scheduling, charting, treatment planning, claims and billing, recall and patient communication, with native Carestream imaging integration.
Single-location and small multi-provider general dental practices in the United States that run an in-office server or Carestream's hosted SoftDent Cloud. Front desk staff schedule from the Tickler and treatment plans, verify insurance through eVerifications and submit claims through Carestream eClaims.
SoftDent retains a meaningful legacy base in general dentistry; it has 13 reviews on Software Advice (https://www.softwareadvice.com/dental/softdent-profile/) and 13 on Capterra (https://www.capterra.com/p/231653/SoftDent/), the 2017 Dentaltown Townie Choice results gave CS SoftDent 4 percent of practice management votes after 8 percent in 2010 and 2011 (https://www.dentaltown.com/townie-choice-awards/results/2017/practice-management/5313/software-practice-management), and Weave still supports versions 14 through 19 (https://www.weavehelp.com/weavehelp/article/softdent-integration-guide).
SoftDent holds the practice's patient and guarantor records, insurance plans and bluebook fee data, appointment schedules, clinical and progress notes, periodontal charting, treatment plans, ledgers and payments, claims and pre-authorizations, recall and tickler lists, lab cases, prescriptions and the link to Carestream imaging.
SoftDent traces to InfoSoft in the early 1990s and runs on Microsoft Windows with Faircom c-tree data files, with later modules added on Microsoft SQL to create what Wikipedia and Open Dental both describe as a hybrid database.
A reminder-service developer on the Open Dental forum reported there are no integration tools available from SoftDent or Faircom and that he had to reverse engineer raw c-tree data files, unable to decode how appointment dates were stored. Open Dental's conversion team notes that offices on SoftDent v15 or later using the hybrid appointment database see all appointments convert with a 30 minute duration and may lose some treatment planned procedures. Supergood's grades measure one thing: can a customer's engineering team get their own data out programmatically? Supergood checks six things (whether a real API exists, how access is gated, data coverage, auth quality, docs and developer experience, and stability) and rolls them into a letter grade. Supergood re-verifies grades, and they only move on evidence.
Not that we could find. As of October 2026 there is no official SoftDent MCP server in any public registry, and no maintained community server we're aware of. We re-verify this periodically — report an inaccuracy below if we missed one.
Not natively. SoftDent doesn't publish an MCP server, so MCP clients like Claude, Cursor, and Codex have nothing to connect to out of the box. If that changes, this page will reflect it.
