HotPads is a U.S. rental search marketplace founded in 2005 and acquired by Zillow Group in December 2012 for ~$16M. It runs a map-first apartment/house/room search experience focused on urban renters, and is operated as part of the Zillow Rentals Network alongside Zillow Rentals and Trulia Rentals.
Real Estate, specifically the U.S. residential rental search vertical, with an urban-renter consumer audience and a supply side of independent landlords, small/mid property managers, and large multifamily operators who syndicate inventory to the Zillow Rentals Network. Renters search by drawing/zooming a map, filter by price/beds/pet-friendly/amenities, and use commute, transit, and points-of-interest overlays to evaluate neighborhoods; they save searches, set instant alerts on new listings, message landlords in-platform, and complete Zillow-powered renter applications, credit/background checks, and rent payments.

Real-time API is ingest-only, there is no documented endpoint to pull listings, leads, messages, or application data back out of HotPads/Zillow Rentals. API access is gated behind manual email onboarding to rentalfeeds@zillow.com, with test and production keys issued by Zillow staff, no self-serve developer portal or signup. Not natively. HotPads doesn't publish an MCP server, so MCP clients like Claude, Cursor, and Codex have nothing to connect to out of the box. If that changes, this page will reflect it.
