Without a usable official API, teams fall back on manual exports, file drops, or one-off vendor integrations. The other option is an unofficial API layer like Supergood that automates the authenticated web app directly. PBS Systems is a privately held Canadian dealer management system (DMS) vendor headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.
Automotive, franchised new car dealerships and dealer groups in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. Dealership staff run the whole store in v10 APEX: accounting and month end, vehicle inventory and desking, F&I contracts and eContracting, service scheduling, repair orders and parts counter, plus built in CRM and marketing.
PBS states 3,500+ dealerships on its platform across North America (about 1,500 in Canada), a 99 percent customer retention claim and 700+ staff; it is one of the larger independent DMS vendors but well behind CDK, Reynolds and Dealertrack in the US.
Full dealership system of record: customer PII (names, addresses, phones, email, birth dates, driver's license scans), vehicle and VIN inventory with costs, deals and F&I contracts with financing terms, repair orders and parts invoices, payroll and general ledger accounting.
Founded 1988; launched what it calls the industry's first Windows based DMS in 1996; the current v10 APEX generation is described as modern and cloud based by PBS, but multiple reviews describe access through remote desktop sessions.
Dealer says the inventory feed PBS sends to their website is badly mangled and customizing it required a four figure fee. Parts manager says fixed ops point of sale and shipping and receiving take three to four times longer than on CDK and the trade off was not worth the lower price. Supergood's grades measure one thing: can a customer's engineering team get their own data out programmatically? Supergood checks six things (whether a real API exists, how access is gated, data coverage, auth quality, docs and developer experience, and stability) and rolls them into a letter grade. Supergood re-verifies grades, and they only move on evidence.
